During times of uncertainty, it can be easy to be so connected to the crisis that you drain your own energy. In order to have energy resilience, you must focus on positive goals. These are the goals that allow you to positively impact you and your surroundings. You will also need to stay connected with healthy people. Healthy people can bring energy to you. Avoid negative people and negative goals. Engaging in negative, emotionally driven thinking and behavior produces more fear, anxiety, and a sense that you and your life are out of control. Take a moment and evaluate what you’re responsible for and what you’re responsible to. You are responsible for yourself and your actions. You are responsible to others who will be impacted by your actions, but you are not responsible for their reactions or their responses. Learn what you can and cannot control. You can’t control yourself, but you cannot control others and you cannot control situations.

Resilient people learn to care for themselves. Here are a few tips to use your energy with respect to control and responsibility. First, you must choose healthy responses. How you respond either brings energy to you or it takes energy from you. In uncertain situations, it is important that you have flexibility. Being flexible allows you to bend but not break. You can spend your energy responding to a changing situation or you can spend it resisting the change. However you respond, you will also need to have integrity. Integrity allows you to be true to yourself and your purpose. Don’t allow the uncertainty of an event to rob you of you. Have integrity and be resilient.

Healthy self care requires you to prioritize self. You cannot effectively or with any consistency care for others unless you first care for yourself. Self care will look different from person to person, but here are a few factors to consider. Invest into healthy relationships. There is no friend tree where you can just go and pick healthy friends, but you can plant seeds, cultivate those seeds and eventually develop healthy friendships. If you don’t have healthy relationships, visit with a therapist and develop an action plan. Care for all of you. In order to be healthy, there are three simple things you need to address. Number one, sleep. Get healthy sleep. Good sleep hygiene is really important to maintaining quality and healthy sleep. Two, eat. Even though you may not feel like eating, it is important to give your body nutrients. Three, move your body, get some exercise. Even if it is just getting out of bed and moving around a bit, move your body.
