About Connie King, LMHC

Connie King, LMHC

I specialize in trauma related issues. Do you second guess yourself or tend to gravitate towards unhealthy relationships and repeat self-destructive patterns? Early exposure to trauma may be the root cause of unhealthy behaviors. I have done extensive work in the prison system providing intensive outpatient therapy to the incarcerated female housed in solitary confinement and close management. The challenges these women faced were unique and complex. The common thread shared between them was a high ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) score. A high ACE score can be remarkably predictive in terms of life outcomes: poor health and disease, emotional deficiencies, depression, abusive relationships, risky behavior, substance abuse and addiction, even future traumatic events. While it may sound like doom and gloom there is hope. High ACE scores do not factor in other variables that build resilience. Resilience is a shield that strengthens holistically. This is the focus of treatment, building resilience and improving life quality.

I have special interests in women’s issues, working with women who were formerly incarcerated, children with an incarcerated parent, and adults who have experienced childhood trauma. I offer an environment free of judgement, blame or shame. The goal is to empower you to grow and then evolve into a mentally healthy individual. You really are in control of what happens next. We attract who we are, therefore, it is important to be the best version of ourselves. Healthy attracts healthy.

I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida. I have a Master of Arts degree in professional counseling with emphasis on special populations, marriage and family, school guidance, and consulting from Webster University. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology from St. Leo University. I have completed additional training in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), Mental Health First Aid, intimate partner violence and conflict resolution. Various treatment approaches utilized are (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (DBT) Dialectical based therapy, TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused CBT), Brief therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based interventions. I offer individual and group therapy sessions.
